Q: Jake, can you tell us about your current role at McKinsey & Company and your key responsibilities?
Jake Henry: As a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, I lead our Mergers & Acquisitions practice in the Americas and serve as a global co-leader. My role involves providing strategic counsel to CEOs and Boards on a broad range of topics, including corporate strategy, portfolio management, and M&A. My focus is on guiding organizations through complex transactions, separations and spins, divestitures, and joint ventures and alliances.
Q: You’ve had a diverse career. How did your previous role as the leader of the Life Sciences Practice influence your current position?
Jake Henry: My experience leading the Life Sciences Practice in North America and as a global co-leader was instrumental in shaping my approach to M&A strategy. It gave me deep insights into the pharmaceutical and medical-technology sectors, particularly around corporate strategy, growth, and operational excellence. This background has been invaluable in advising companies on mergers and acquisitions and understanding the evolving landscape of healthcare.
Q: How has your background in biomechanical and mechanical engineering contributed to your work in healthcare and M&A?
Jake Henry: My technical background in biomechanical and mechanical engineering has been crucial in understanding the impact of technology on the healthcare value chain and patient care. It allows me to offer a unique perspective on how technological advancements can influence business strategies and operational efficiencies for medical device and biotechnology companies.
Q: You’re also known for your work in the Chicago community. Can you tell us more about your involvement?
Jake Henry: I’m deeply committed to my community as a proud Chicagoan. I currently serve on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago and have previously been involved with the Civic Consulting Alliance and Choose Chicago. My goal is to contribute positively to the community and leverage my skills and experience to support local initiatives and organizations.
Q: Outside of your professional life, what are your interests and hobbies?
Jake Henry: I enjoy a variety of activities including downhill skiing, paddle tennis, golf, and wine tasting. Growing up in Wisconsin, I’m also an avid Green Bay Packers fan, which reflects my strong ties to my roots and my love for sports.
